Description OS Compatibility Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7, Vista & XP CD (Compact Disc) Writers are simply optical disc drives (ODD) that use laser light or electromagnetic waves to record and read compact discs. A CD writer driver is the software protocol employed to facilitate communication between the peripheral CD writer and the operating system or PC. The CD writer driver provides the CD writer with instructions to properly record items such as CDs, DVDs, HD DVDs, Blue Ray Discs or software. The CD writer or recorder typically encodes or burns the data on a blank recordable disc, known as CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, or BD-R. When the user decides to record a CD using the CD writer, the CD writer driver translates the command from the computer and then activates the CD writer to begin the CD writing process. Based upon the original disc, the computer will issue a series of commands to instruct the CD writer on how to burn a replica of the disc. The CD writer driver facilitates the communication between the computer and the CD writer. Using this process, the CD writer will burn the disc exactly as the original. The CD writer driver controls the burning process that takes place with a high intensity write laser. The write laser is more powerful than the reading laser. For compact discs, the wavelength of the write laser is typically around 780 nm (infrared range). The wavelength for DVDs was reduced to 650 nm (red color) and reduced even further for Blu-Ray Disc to 405 nm (violet color). Using the writer laser, the CD writer driver instructs the CD writer to burn or darken the areas that should be encoded as 0s and leave the areas translucent that should be encoded as 1s. This process creates a code that can be read and understood by the digital sensor in a CD reader during play back. The process is permanent and each disc can only be written once, unless you use a CD-RW, which is erasable and rewritable. • • Problems with CD Writers Drivers 1) Conflicts with the existing CD writer driver 2) Missing CD writer drivers 3) Corrupted CD writer driver files 4) Poorly designed CD writer drivers 5) CD writer drivers incompatible with the operating system 6) Problems in the Windows Registry Troubleshooting CD Writer Drivers Some CD writers are plug and play depending upon the operating system and the brand. Others require drivers.
